About this restaurant hood cost calculator
This site is a planning worksheet for owners comparing restaurant, ghost-kitchen, concession, or food-truck hood budgets before they sign a lease, buy equipment, or approve a contractor proposal. It shows why a hood bid moves instead of hiding trade scope behind a single quote-request form.

How the estimate is built
- Inputs start with hood type, project preset, hood length, cooking intensity, construction condition, duct route, penetrations, and selected trade scope.
- Each line item produces a low and high planning range before contingency, then labor-sensitive work is adjusted by the selected regional multiplier.
- Equipment, ductwork, fan and curb, makeup air, fire suppression, electrical or mechanical labor, permits, design, inspection support, and contingency stay visible as separate rows.
Estimate assumptions
- Type I hood packages price higher than Type II because grease equipment commonly adds suppression, heavier duct coordination, access panels, shutdown controls, and inspection touchpoints.
- Food-truck and concession presets use shorter hood and duct assumptions while still keeping suppression, fan, makeup air, and inspection allowances visible when selected.
- Second-generation spaces receive a lower construction factor because some shafts, curbs, fans, or duct paths may be reusable after inspection. New builds carry higher contingency.
- Unsupported inputs are clamped to a 4-foot minimum hood, 30-foot maximum hood, 120-foot duct run, and four roof or wall penetrations.

Your adopted code edition, amendments, fire code, health department, landlord, insurer, and authority having jurisdiction control the actual project. This calculator does not interpret code or decide which hood is required.
